Back in July 2024, Wiz Khalifa was playing the Beach, Please! festival in Costinești, a seaside town in Romania. At some point during the show, he smoked a joint. Romanian authorities weren't exactly impressed. According to prosecutors, the rapper had 18.53 grams of cannabis with him, plus a joint. The charge was possession for personal use. His first punishment came down to 3,600 Romanian lei. Not exactly pocket change, but at least he wasn't facing a cell. Then prosecutors appealed. And that's when things got serious. In December 2025, the court handed him nine months in prison. All that trouble over something he did during a festival performance.
Then came November 3, 2026. A court in Bucharest set aside his conviction and withdrew the order that would have put the prison sentence into effect. That's a pretty big change for a rapper who'd been staring at nine months behind bars. But here's the catch. Wiz hasn't been acquitted. The prosecutors' appeal is heading back to court on November 12, with arrangements being made for him to appear by video. So the legal drama is still running. We've just reached another episode, not the season finale.
And there's something almost surreal about the whole thing. This is Wiz Khalifa we're talking about. The man has built a huge part of his musical identity around cannabis. He's got Khalifa Kush, his own cannabis brand, and has never exactly been shy about his relationship with weed. But what might feel like another ordinary moment during a hiphop performance can become a criminal case when you're playing a country with different drug laws. Being famous doesn't magically change the rules. For now, Wiz can put that nine-month sentence behind him. Whether it stays that way is another question. Romania hasn't finished with this story just yet.
