Wiz Khalifa has never exactly kept his love of weed a secret. He's rapped about it, talked about it and eventually put his own name on it. Now his Khalifa Kush brand is heading for New York, with a launch planned for October 31. The opening rollout covers 36 licensed cannabis stores, including seven in New York City. The other 29 are spread across Long Island and upstate New York. So there's another release to look out for this Halloween. No new album, just two strains of weed.
They're called KK and Violet Sky, and both will be available as flower and pre-rolled joints. Khalifa Kush is working with New York-based Skyworld Cannabis to grow and supply the products. That's important because American cannabis laws are different in every state. You can't just pack a truck with weed from California and start delivering it to shops across the country. Wiz might be the famous name on the label, but somebody still has to grow the plants locally and get them onto the right shelves.
The brand started with a strain made to suit Wiz's own tastes and has since expanded into thirteen US markets. New York is set to become number fourteen. According to Khalifa Kush CEO DJ Saul, fans have been asking for years when they'd finally be able to buy it there. Whether every shop will have stock on October 31 remains to be seen. The 36 locations are part of the announced rollout, not a promise that every shelf will be full on day one. Still, it's quite a shift from the days when rappers mostly put their names on clothing lines or liquor bottles. Wiz Khalifa doesn't just rap about his favourite weed anymore. These days, he can send an invoice for it too.
