Las Vegas doesn't exactly struggle to put on a show. On October 17, the NuWu Cannabis Cup returned for its sixth edition, bringing Nevada's cannabis brands into competition. The organisers published the winners on October 27. There were ten first-place awards across five product categories and two judging groups. Plenty of trophies, and an impressive number of product names that sound like experimental album titles.
High Heads took the influencer judges' flower award with Member Berry. Tsunami picked up the extract prize for Nitro Fumez LR Badder. Edibles, vapes and infused pre-rolls had separate categories. Consumer judges assessed numbered entries wherever possible, an attempt to keep brand recognition out of the decision. That matters when so many products are sold in packaging designed to catch your eye.
For Dutch readers, this is a glimpse of how differently the legal American cannabis market operates. There are competitions for products that don't necessarily resemble a traditional Dutch coffeeshop menu. The awards tell us what won this particular event, not what every consumer should buy. Still, the names alone are enough to keep a strain enthusiast busy for a while.
